...and some winter fun
Where do we ski this winter? - top ski resorts in Europe
Regardless of their nationality, winter sport lovers owe a lot of gratitude to Mother Nature for her creation of the Alps. Although mountain resorts on other continents are every bit as good as the European ones, The Alps are the place where skiing was born and perfected very close to what we might call a new art. So, why shouldn’t we go to any of the resorts in the Alps to pay a personal tribute to the mountain? Full of valleys, peaks, difficult terrains or oases of calm, the old mountain range that crosses the very center of Europe lures us with various mountain resosrts with a unique atmosphere. We only have to pick the ideal destination according to our own preferences, and to prepare for a perfect vacation that means not only fabulous food, meeting international stars or admiring the unique Alp views.
It’s all about winter skiing !.
Today about:
Hintertux, Austria
Hintertux has one of the best glaciers in Europe, with a special ladder section called Gefrorene Wand (the frozen wall). It is one of the favorite destinations of those who won’t give up skiing even in the warm season. It is also visited in the autumn, when the fans come here to prepare for the generous winter that will soon follow.
Those who wait patiently for the beginning of the skiing season are well rewarded: They have not only the glacier, but also the north slopes, shielded from the sun. And if the season starts well, they will also have other potential slopes that total 157 km. Night life in Hintertux is very lively even off season, and the hotels in the area offer European standards regardless of the weather.
Verbier, Switzerland
Essentially, this eclectic resort located on the east side of the Val de Bagnes combines the architecture usually associated with the eastern part of the Alps with the high mountains and the challenging slopes that define the western part of the Alps. Peaks like Les Attelas, Les Ruinettes and especially Mont-Fort are renowned for their good slopes for advanced and pro skiers. Those who choose the snowboard will also be happy. All activities connected to winter and to winter sports are available in Verbier and they are designed to satisfy even the most nonconformist amateur sportsmen. But all in all, Verbier is not the proper place for beginners.
Even if you only want to ski around the resort for a week, you won’t have time to get bored. A ticket to Quatre Vallees will take you on a trip to the neighboring resorts, smaller and less modernized, like Thyon, Nendaz and Veysonnaz, and several other smaller slopes without lifts or cable cars.
